CAYO LUMO

Eight villas over the water · 9°20′N 82°14′W

The water taxi is waiting
Bow of a water taxi crossing golden water toward Cayo Lumo
I · The Crossing

Twenty minutes from Bocas Town. Then the engine cuts.

There is no road here. You arrive the way everything does in the archipelago, by water. When the boat slows, you will see the lanterns.

Lantern-lit teak dock at blue hour leading to the open-air lobby
II · The Dock

Barefoot check-in.

No counter, no queue. A cold towel, a cup of Bocas cacao, and your bags walked ahead of you down the boardwalk. The villa is already open.

III · The Villas

Your house, on stilts.

Charred timber, white linen, and a glass panel in the floor that turns the lagoon into late-night television. The ladder at the end of your deck is the only commute.

IV · The Water

The reef starts at your ladder.

Sea fans, parrotfish, the occasional unhurried turtle. Kayaks and snorkel gear live on your deck. Guides take you further: the mangrove channels, a Ngäbe cacao farm, and the empty sandbars of the Zapatillas.

V · The Table

La Marea. Caught that morning.

A dozen tables over the water. Whatever the boats brought in, fire, lime, and geisha coffee grown two hours away in the Boquete highlands. And behind the shoreline, Selva: one massage table, ferns, and the sound of rain that never quite arrives.

VI · The Explorations

The archipelago is the amenity.

Seven outings, one rule: you just show up. The house plans, books and guides every one of them; boats, guides, permits and picnics included, and back in time for sunset at La Marea.
